Your first useful answer
Set up one account and a dated starting balance, then understand your first answer in Helm.
Start with the money you can identify today. You do not need to import statements or record a purchase to get a useful starting picture.
Before you start
Have an account name, its currency, and a balance you can state for a specific date. A bank account, cash wallet or credit-card account can be your starting point. The amounts below are fictional examples, not suggested balances.
Open Helm and choose Create account if you are new. Sign in with your email and password. Social sign-in is planned.
1. Choose your starting preferences
Choose Set up my first account in the welcome guide. Make it yours lets you set an optional name and a supported base currency. Choose the currency you normally use to read your overall situation. This does not convert money already held in another currency.
You can change preferences later in Settings. Your base currency is a reading preference; each account still keeps its own currency.
2. Add one real account
- Choose Add my account in the setup guide, or open Settings → Accounts → Add account.
- Give it a recognizable name, such as Everyday account.
- Select the type and currency that match the account.
- Enter the balance you are stating and the As of date. Zero is a valid balance; do not use zero to stand for an unknown amount.
- Save, then let Helm refresh your situation.
For example, you could state EGP 2,400 as of 4 October 2026 for Everyday account. With that single cash-like account and no other recorded money, the starting answer should reflect that account and its stated balance. It is your stated starting point, not a bank-verified balance.
A credit-card debt or a foreign-currency account needs different context. See account setup and reading your situation.
3. Read the basis of the answer
Open My Situation. Check the account name, currency, date and any completeness or conversion note. A figure can be known for one account while the combined picture is incomplete.
If the account saved but its balance did not, continue the offered balance recovery for that account. Do not create the same account again. If a save is uncertain, refresh and inspect Settings → Accounts before repeating it.
Read the interactive guide walkthrough for the exact setup, skip and replay controls.
Choose what comes next
- Record a movement when money actually changes hands.
- Review a bank import when you want to bring in supported records.
- Add bills and recurring plans to look ahead.
- Orient yourself around Helm or replay the guide from Settings.
These are optional next steps. Adding an income source gives receipts useful context, but it does not itself record income. For a simple first movement, record an actual purchase or receipt and then read the refreshed account history.
