Using HelmPlans, events and matters

Product guide

Organize plans, events and matters

Give expected income, commitments and shared purposes context without recording imaginary money.

Plans help explain what you expect. Actual movements explain what happened. Helm keeps these separate so setting up an event or income source does not inflate the financial picture.

Add an income source

Open Settings → Income sources and choose Add income source. Give the salary, client or other source a recognizable name. Leave an expected amount blank until you know it.

When money arrives, use I received in Activity and choose the source if appropriate. Adding Salary by itself does not record salary. Income-source setup is optional; a manual receipt can be unlinked.

Describe a future commitment

Use events or obligations in Settings for dates and expected commitments. Add the name, date and currency you actually know. Review the result in Coming.

A fictional example: Course fee, EGP 1,200, expected 12 October 2026 is a plan. It becomes a real payment only when you record the money that settled from an account.

Group a shared purpose

Use a matter when several movements belong to the same real-world purpose, such as a fictional Home repair. Categories answer what the spending was for; a person answers who was involved; the matter groups the purpose. Tags remain an additional independent label.

You do not need to force every movement into all of these dimensions. Add context that helps answer your question.

When a plan changes

Edit or end the plan through its controls, then recheck Coming. Existing actual payments remain in history. If the money itself is wrong, correct the movement instead of changing the plan’s name or amount.

For recurring commitments, continue with subscriptions; for a dated bill, read upcoming dates.
